BALTIC TRIENNIAL REVEALS ARTIST LIST FOR ITS THIRTEENTH EDITION
The Thirteenth Baltic Triennial has announced the complete list of artists participating in its upcoming exhibition, which for the first time will take place in three countries. The exhibition will kick off at the Contemporary Art Center in Vilnius, Lithuania, on May 11; the Center for Contemporary Arts Estonia in Tallinn on June 29; and at the Kim? Contemporary Art Center in Riga on September 21.
Titled “Give Up the Ghost,” the exhibition will try to answer what it means “to belong at a time of fractured identities” and invites artists to “think beyond identity as something fixed, self-contained, and essentialized.” Each country will tackle a different issue. Vilnius, which will host the largest venue of the triennial, will question concepts of territories and social bodies. The Tallinn section will focus on how sensuality and intimacy factors into one’s sense of belonging and Riga’s chapter will present a series of performances and events that explore measures of generosity and humility. Following his appointment as artistic director, Vincent Honoré declared that this year’s triennial would be “one of the most experimental events of its kind.”
