Damien Hirst artwork defaced by Occupy protesters



The lazily scrawled navy graffiti stretches no higher than arm's reach on the thigh of Damien Hirst's famous sculpture 'Hymn'.

It is the Occupy movement's latest attempt to take action against the free market and, in this instance, its consequences on art.

Hirst is "the man who has defined the capitalist approach to art more than any other... he is the brash Goldman Sachs of the art world," states an article in The Occupied Times.

The article, by Kester Brewin, calls for artists to return to a creative process that is not about "wealth". It also asks Occupy protesters not to direct their ire exclusively at the world of banking.

"Bankers have been the focus of ire for some time now, but their (`b_code`,`b_cate`,`b_kind`,`b_title`,`b_name`,`b_link`,`b_content`,`b_etc10`,`b_etc11`,`b_datetime`) VALUES and morals are lived out in so many others who exist in many other fields."
